She became a nurse in 1983, studying nursing at DMACC, University of Iowa and Grand View College. Even with all her training and experience, she found herself divorced, in-debt and bed bound with depression for 6 months. It was Alternative Health Methods that got her “out of bed”. This ignited a quest for learning and a sincere desire to share with others what she was… living. From these beginnings, the Center was born.
Deb is involved with all levels of the Center from major projects to minor details. She is known to greet each person who returns to the Center by name and means it when she says “Welcome, how are you today?”. She supports on-going staff development and works with private clients using several healing methods for tailored healing sessions. She is both a student for life and a teacher to her core and is especially interested in Conscious Living, Meditation and the refinement of touch through various methods.
She became a Licensed Massage Therapist in 1997 and has participated in over 10 years of extensive teacher training classes. Deb attends the State Massage Board Meetings on a regular basis. Our school is the only school in Iowa that has a representative in attendance at every meeting of the State Massage Therapy Board meetings. She is a Master-Teacher of Reiki and other Alternative Health Methods, receives frequent requests for public speaking engagements, and teaches numerous classes at the Center and in the community.
In the Massage Therapy Program, Deb is the common thread throughout the course. She teaches:
Advanced Mentoring
Deb directs all activities in the Student & Professional Massage Therapy Clinics. She is active, involved and available to individual students throughout the course.
Deb looks at things differently than most people and inspires others with her wisdom and insight. She has a gift of being able to bring out the best in others, offers new perspectives and encourages them to the next level on their unique path. She really loves …and lives… her work. You’ll want to meet Deb.
One quote she finds especially inspiring, and is displayed at the Center, is:
“You must be the change you want to see in the world.”

The following was a part of the dedications ceremony for a new fountain added to the lobby as a part of the 10 year anniversary celebration events at the Center.
Waterfall
I choose to manifest something
different,
something true.
I hand over these crutches
that hold capable legs to feel unsure.
With the beauty
and graceful power of a waterfall,
I will use my energy to go forward
,
steady and with purpose.
Accept me as I fall
to rise up again –
in body and spirit,
mindfully here.
